finding a sailmaker

There are lots of very good Sailmakers all of whom will use Bainbridge Sailcloth. Some of them are listed in the Sailmaker directory. They will provide good advice and make you an excellent sail so listen to what they say and make sure you give them the information they need.

Here are further tips on buying a sail:

  • Shop around for your sail and try different types of sail loft. Try a large group loft as they will have a large design database, and try a local independent in your area as they may be more familiar with your local conditions and give a more personalised service.
  • When comparing quotes make sure they are like for like. A cheaper quote using a cheaper cloth may not be better value.
  • Provide the best information you can on your boat. Make, model, year, rig option and any rig modifications.
  • If needed measure your boat accurately, do not measure old sails, they will have stretched!
  • Be honest about the sailing you do and your ability level. If you are not a hot shot racer don't claim to be or you will get a sail that does not suit your needs.
